Non GamStop Casinos

Responsible Gambling at Casinos Not on GamStop

Offshore casinos do not apply the safeguards that UK-licensed sites must use. There is no £5 slot stake limit, no 10x cap on bonus wagering, no affordability checks of the UK kind and no link to GamStop. Bonus buy, autoplay and fast spins are switched on. All of this means losses can build faster than at a UKGC casino, and the controls that slow them down have to be set by the player.

This page explains which controls are available, where they fall short and where to find free help in the UK.

If You Are Registered with GamStop

A GamStop exclusion is a decision to block gambling for a set period. Casinos not on GamStop make it possible to get round that block, and using them works against the reason for registering.

The exclusion lasts for the full period chosen, whether six months, one year or five years, and cannot be shortened. When the period ends, it stays active until the person contacts GamStop and asks for it to be removed. Services that claim to cancel GamStop early are not part of the scheme.

Anyone who registered with GamStop and is now looking at offshore casinos may find it useful to speak to GamCare before opening an account anywhere.

Signs That Gambling Is Causing Harm

Harm rarely starts with a single large loss. It tends to show up as small changes in habits:

  • Depositing again shortly after a session ended in a loss
  • Staking more than planned to recover a losing day
  • Using money set aside for bills, rent or other people
  • Borrowing, or using a credit card, to fund deposits
  • Hiding the amount or the time spent from family or a partner
  • Feeling restless or irritable when not able to play
  • Claiming bonuses mainly to extend play rather than for their value
  • Opening accounts at new casinos after self-excluding from others

Two or three of these together are a reason to stop and talk to someone, even if the amounts involved seem manageable.

Account Controls at Offshore Casinos

Most casinos listed on this site offer some form of limit and exclusion in the account settings. The quality varies from one operator to the next.

ControlWhat It DoesWhat to Check
Deposit limitCaps deposits per day, week or monthA lower limit should apply at once, a higher one only after a waiting period
Loss limitStops play once net losses reach a set amountWhether bonus funds count towards the limit
Session reminderShows time played and net result at set intervalsWhether it can be switched off without a delay
Time-outBlocks the account for 24 hours to several weeksWhether it can be cancelled early through support
Self-exclusionCloses the account for six months or longerWhether it extends to sister casinos and the sportsbook

The weakest point is scope. A self-exclusion at one offshore casino usually applies to that site only. Operators with several brands do not always share exclusions between them, so a player excluded from one casino may still be able to register at its sister site. Asking support directly, in writing, whether an exclusion applies to the whole group is the only reliable way to find out.

Tools That Work Across Every Site

Controls set at a single casino stop at that casino. Several free or low-cost tools work across all of them:

Gambling blocking software

Gamban and BetBlocker block access to gambling websites and apps on phones, tablets and computers, including offshore casinos. BetBlocker is free. Gamban is free for UK users through several partner organisations.

Bank gambling blocks

Most UK banks, including Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC and NatWest, let customers block gambling transactions on their debit card from the banking app. Some apply a delay of 48 hours or more before the block can be removed.

Credit reference opt-out

Adding a note to a credit file through a credit reference agency can help block new credit applications during a difficult period.

Removing saved payment details

Deleting saved cards and crypto wallet addresses from casino accounts adds a small step before every deposit. It sounds minor, but the pause is often enough to stop an impulse deposit.

Setting a Gambling Budget

A gambling budget is the amount that can be lost without affecting bills, savings or anything else. It is set before the session starts, not adjusted during it.

  • Decide the amount per week or month and set it as a deposit limit at every casino used
  • Treat every deposit as already spent
  • Withdraw winnings above a set amount instead of leaving them in the casino balance
  • Decline bonuses whose wagering would take longer than the time actually available to play
  • Stop for the day after a set loss, without chasing it

Offshore bonuses with high wagering are a common reason budgets fail. A £100 bonus at 40x needs £4,000 of stakes, and the pressure to finish wagering before the bonus expires pushes sessions longer than planned.
